It all started Christmas of 2011…
To say that my mother-in-law is an amazing cook, entertainer, and homemaker is an understatement. If you visit her home at Christmastime you will be filled with the holiday spirit. From the delicious homebaked goods to the stunningly decorated Christmas tree, she truly goes out of her way to make it “the most wonderful time of the year”.
That is why, when I heard my in-laws would be visiting us for Christmas, I knew I wanted to try and make something special, something homemade. Despite previous mishaps in the kitchen, on projects as simple as microwave popcorn and broccoli with cheese sauce (any one of my siblings will be happy to give you the details), I searched the Internet for ideas. In the end, I decided to make Bakerella’s Christmas Tree Cake Pops and sugar cookies decorated with store bought icing. The cake pops came out super cute but were barely eaten. The sugar cookies, on the other hand, were a big hit!
A special thank you goes out to one of my sisters, a baking queen, who saved me alot of time and frustration. Any time I ran into a problem, like dough spreading, I could just pick up the phone for advice.
After the holidays were over, I began experimenting with royal icing and different sugar cookie recipes. The first cookies I made with royal icing were nothing to brag about but were a major improvement from my Christmas cookies.
Soooooo…….. I decided to start this blog to share my sugar cookie experiments.
My name is Janine and I’m a sugar cookie-aholic.
