Yay… after some practice, I’m feeling confident enough to share my cookies! My hubby has been volunteering as my official taste tester and they have received his stamp of approval. I’ve been reading blogs, watching tutorials, and learning some basic techniques. Although I definitely need some practice with piping, my latest batch does not embarrass me. So… I broke out the bubble wrap and shipped some valentine sugar cookies to my baking queen sister. I’m so glad these cookies ship well… nothing like giving my little nieces a sugar high from across the country!
For this batch of cookies, I used this sugar cookie recipe from Amanda at i am baker and this royal icing recipe from Sweetopia. I also watched tutorials at University of Cookie to learn more about icing consistency and basic decorating how-tos. There are a lot of really talented cookie decorators out there that I am so grateful to for sharing their knowledge and experiences!
The cookies were super yummy but I am going to continue to experiment a little. The dough was a little softer than I would like and the icing was the opposite… a little harder than I would like.
