Now that you know How To Make Cookie Press Cookies, it’s time to move on to the fun part… decorating them!
Keeping things simple, I used just one icing in one color and consistency to create three different cookie press flowers. (To see how to make the cookies from different colored doughs, see my previous post, How To Make Cookie Press Cookies.) I whipped myself up some brown royal icing in piping consistency, grabbed some sprinkles, and was ready to decorate!
For flower #1, I used PME round tip #1.5 to draw the lines and Wilton star tip #18 to create the center. With the #18 tip loaded, I held my piping bag directly over the center of the cookie, applied pressure to release the icing, and pulled upward to create a little peak. Then, I switched to my #1.5 tip and drew the flower outline.
I love chocolate sprinkles and using brown icing is the perfect excuse to include them in the design of a cookie. So, for flower #2, I piped a circle in the center of the cookie with a round #3 tip, then immediately showered sprinkles on top. For the sprinkles that decided they wanted to do their own thing, I just gently nudged them into place in the center of the cookie. To add the different sized dots to the flower, I used the round #3 tip and #1.5 tip.
For flower #3, I wanted to use brown sanding sugar to create the center. I didn’t find any on my trip to Hobby Lobby, so I decided to just wing it and dye my own sugar. All I had on hand was regular granulated sugar, which isn’t as course (or pretty) as sanding sugar. But you gotta work with what ya got! I put some sugar in a Ziploc bag, added a couple drops of food coloring, and swished it around until it was well-blended. Oh, and of course, used a super cute jar to store the extra next to my chocolate sprinkles!
Once I had my sanding sugar, I followed the same process as flower #2, substituting the sugar for the chocolate sprinkles. Presto! Flowers with cute fuzzy centers!
Now I ask you… does it get any easier than that?

Found these through the Bearfoot Baker’s link party – what a great idea! I love the ease of the cookie press, but I never loved the way the cookies looked – I hadn’t thought of sprucing them up with icing and sugar!
Thanks, Jennifer! Coloring the dough is another option for adding interest to cookie press cookies. I was really happy with how bright these came out!
