Have you been bitten by the Minecraft bug yet? Do you find yourself spending hours mining, building, and killing Creepers? I have to confess that I have spent my share of days in my pajamas wondering where the time went while I tediously dyed sheep and collected my colored wool. It seems only natural that this obsession healthy indulgence would pour over into my baking. So, without further ado, I give you Minecraft cookies….

How to Make Minecraft Cookies

This cookie set started with a little, okay a lot, of planning. Luckily, the hard part is now done so you can simply download the free printable templates at the end of this post and skip right to the fun part… decorating.

Since the characters in Minecraft (and basically all other elements of the game) are made up of square pixels, each of your Minecraft cookies will be made up of tiny squares. Use the printable templates provided as a paint-by-number guide so you know what color icing to put in each square.

To make Steve cookies, you will need:

Start by using a food coloring marker to draw straight lines breaking each cookie up into eight rows and eight columns. This will give you 64 squares to fill with icing.

Using your printed template as a guide, fill in all of the squares labeled with the #1 with dark brown royal icing. Before icing, you may want to mark the squares with your food coloring marker to help prevent mistakes. Complete this step on all of your Steve Minecraft cookies and let the icing dry somewhat before moving on to the next color.

Repeat the above steps for each of the additional four colors you are using on your Steve cookies. Let the royal icing dry completely (preferably overnight) before stacking or packaging your cookies.

To make Creeper cookies, you will need:

Start by using a food coloring marker to draw straight lines breaking each cookie up into eight rows and eight columns. This will give you 64 squares to fill with icing.

Using your printed template as a guide, fill in all of the squares labeled with the #1 with black royal icing. Before icing, you may want to mark the squares with your food coloring marker to help prevent mistakes. While the icing is still wet, sprinkle black sanding sugar onto the surface of your cookie. Complete this step on all of your Creeper cookies and let the icing dry somewhat. Remove any excess sanding sugar by tilting your cookie vertically and gently shaking or brushing the sugar off.

Helpful Hint: To easily save any unused sanding sugar, do your decorating over a coffee filter. After you shake off the excess sanding sugar, you can easily pour it back into your sugar container.

Next, fill in all of the squares labeled with the #2 with light green royal icing. Complete this step on all of your Creeper Minecraft cookies and let the icing dry somewhat before moving on to the next color. How to Make Creeper Minecraft Cookies

Fill in the squares for the medium green and dark green colors using the same steps as above, letting the icing dry somewhat in between colors. Let the royal icing dry completely (preferably overnight) before stacking or packaging your cookies.

Love the idea and the tutorial is easy to follow, thank you!!!!. How far in advance do you think these would last for?. I am trying to plan my boy’s party and I need to schedule the projects so I could actually put some makeup on that day before everybody arrives, if you know what I mean.

Lorena, you can definitely make these cookies ahead (and I suggest it if you’ll be getting ready for a party!). I typically make mine in stages so I don’t go crazy. I make my favorite royal icing one day, make my cookie dough another day, roll & cut the dough the next day, bake the cookies the next day, and start decorating the next day. Once they are baked and iced, I suggest eating them within 3 – 5 days but I’ve had people tell me that they’re still good after 2 weeks.
