Argyle Onesie Baby Shower Cookies

Onesie Baby Shower Cookies | sugarkissed.net

Overwhelmed by cuteness, I searched the web in pursuit of the perfect baby shower favors for my little sister’s upcoming jungle baby shower. Of course, homemade cookies and cake pops were in the running from the beginning! After browsing through endless adorable little knick-knacks that could be handed out as baby shower favors, I decided to make my favorite sugar cookies in the shape of adorable onesies decorated with my favorite royal icing.

In addition to the fact that you will be saying “aaaawwwwww…” out loud every five minutes while you are making them, the great thing about onesie baby shower cookies is that you have endless options for decorating. You can use any pattern and any color combination you can come up with.

My sister’s baby shower was a jungle theme featuring the colors blue and green. I used royal icing transfers to add monkeys and lions to the onesie cookies and decorated them with different combinations of patterns and colors to match. Today, I’m excited to share with you how I made my favorite onesie cookies with an argyle pattern. Substitute the colors on your baby shower cookies to match the theme of the party you are hosting/attending.

To make onesie baby shower cookies, you will need:

How To Make Onesie Cookies with an Argyle Pattern

  1. Start by marking the location of the tops, sides, and bottoms of the diamonds in the argyle pattern. Do this by making tiny dots with your orange royal icing. Immediately move on to Step #2.
  2. Connect the dots with your orange royal icing so that you have three diamonds next to each other and touching. Immediately move on to Step #3.
  3. Flood the diamond shapes with orange royal icing. While the orange icing is still wet, draw an “X” in each diamond with blue royal icing. Using this wet-on-wet technique ensures that the blue icing is flush with the orange, creating a smooth surface. Complete Steps #1 – 3 for all cookies. Set the onesie cookies aside to let the icing dry for at least 20 minutes.
  4. Outline and immediately flood the onesie shape with your green royal icing. While the green icing is wet, use a pair of tweezers (clean and used for baking only) to place three orange confetti sprinkles on the bottom of the onesie as buttons. If you are using royal icing transfers on your onesie cookies, place them onto the wet green royal icing. Complete Step #4 for all cookies. Set the onesie cookies aside to let the icing dry for at least 20 minutes.
  5. Finish off the onesie cookies by drawing an outline with your orange royal icing. Complete this step for all cookies and set them aside to completely dry before stacking or packaging, preferably overnight.

I would like to make cookie pops, attaching the stick with melted candy disks to the cookie. What is your experience in doing that? Would this cookie recipe work?
