Pug Cookies – Happy National Dog Day!

It doesn’t get much cuter than pug cookies! With smooshed faces, button noses, and bug eyes, their adorableness cannot be contained!

Pug CookiesWith National Dog Day this weekend, I thought this would be the perfect time to share with you the pug cookies I made for my pug loving sister. She has had an unnatural obsession with pugs for as long as I can remember. I guess that’s lucky for her Puggle, Scooter, who you see below eyeing the pug cookies.

Do you have a breed of dog that you can’t help but love above all others?

Pug Cookies

One of the great things about this set of pug cookies, is that they look detailed and time-consuming while actually they are simple to make.

The only part of the cookies that I created free hand were the backgrounds. I made the polka dot backgrounds by flooding the cookie and adding dots to the wet icing in a contrasting color. I created the marbled backgrounds  by flooding the cookie, adding lines to the wet icing in different colors, and dragging a toothpick through the lines. (I used this same technique on my butterfly cookies shown below.)

How To Make Butterfly Cookies

I made the cookies with the pug faces using royal icing transfers. If you need help with this technique, check out my How To Transfer Designs Onto Cookies tutorial. To learn how to make royal icing eyes, check out Royal Icing Googly Eyes by How Does She. Or if you would rather not make them youself, you can  purchase premade royal icing eyes at various places online.

I used royal icing transfers for all of the “P-U-G-S” raised lettering as well. To add that extra sparkle, I simply sprinkled them with disco dust while the icing was still wet. For a step-by-step tutorial on making sparkly royal icing letters, you can check out Sweetopia’s Valentine’s {Love} Cupcakes.

Pug Cookies

Will you be celebrating National Dog Day this weekend?

I’d love to hear about your furry family members! Does Fido hang out in the kitchen while you’re baking, waiting for some tasty morsels to drop? Do you let Lassie lick the spatula after you’ve whipped up something sweet?

My little Murray is never far away when I’m working in the kitchen. Although sometimes I think he gets a little bored watching me stir, stir, stir…

I LOVE pugs! I have one and my sisters each have one. We grew up with one. We are a pug loving family. I don’t feed my pug table scraps or let her in the kitchen. Pugs can get chubby very easily and I don’t like having her underfoot as I’m moving around in the kitchen. I love these cookies! Had to click on it as soon as I saw the title on SITS.

Thanks, Tasha! There’s just something about those adorable bug eyes! And I loved your rainbow cookies! It’s fun to get creative with colored dough instead of doing all the decorating with the icing.

Oh how I love these cookies, Janine! You did a wonderful job. My little pup tries to be sneaky and slowly walk into the kitchen while I am cooking. She thinks I won’t see her. It’s really funny!
