Well, it’s quite possible that I am the very last cookier online to make Star Wars cookies. I completely missed the boat on Star Wars Day, May 4th. But hey, better late than never!
One of the coolest things about making Star Wars cookies is that there are so many designs and characters to choose from. You can find extensive resources online for graphics in many different styles. I spent a long time weeding through lots of photos and clip art. In the end, I decided to go with a minimalist look and use just a handful of the characters.
I knew that I definitely wanted to include Yoda and Darth Vader in my cookies. In my opinion, they are the most interesting Star Wars characters, but I’m sure there are many out there that would debate that with me. Today I’ll show you how I made the Yoda cookies and the other character that I chose from the light side. Instead of using royal icing transfers, I traced the outline of the characters onto the first layer of royal icing once it dried. I printed out templates from clip art that I found online, cut out the templates, and then used a toothpick to gently scratch the outlines onto the dried icing.
I made these Star Wars cookies for my hubby’s birthday recently. Ever since I started baking and decorating sugar cookies, he has been asking me, and I quote, “Where are my Star Wars cookies?” Needless to say, these were a hit! His favorite of the Star Wars cookies was the R2D2 one.
Who’s your favorite Star Wars character? Have you made your own Star Wars themed treats?
These look fantastic! My favorite character is R2D2
Gotta love R2D2! Wish I had a little guy like that following me around everyday!
Oh my heck. Stop it right now. This is too cute! My husband is a huge Star Wars fan and would love something like this. I’ll have to try my hand at it. Can’t wait to see what else you have up your sleeve on this lovely blog!
